I like this one:

NEED GASOLINE

will be signaled by the rider patting or pointing to their gas tank. The signal should be passed ahead by the other riders to the Road Captain.

So how exactly do you pass the signal to the person ahead of you?

Good recap of signals for those that aren't familiar with group rides. Everyone has a few slight variations. ie. we pat the top of our heads when there's a cop in sight, etc.

Any good rider should always look at their mirrors every 5 to 8 seconds, and a following rider should always position himself so he can see the front rider's face in the front rider's mirror.

The front rider is bound to see you pointing at your gas tank, if not, he's not looking at his mirror's like he/she should.

If all else fails, signal your exit from the group.

Some of those hand signals are hard to visualize from the text descriptions. We should take some pictures of them so that it's easier to figure out :P

The comfort stop one may confuse people since that signal is used quite often to mean cops are around and to play safe.

Also, the foot to the left/right for road hazards may be taken out of context by some because some people use that as a position signal to mean they want to move to the left or right.

As for signaling for a left or right turn, your blinkers should also be used along with hand signals (I think at least).

On a related topic, special thanks to the person carrying a passenger on the silver ZX636 on Saturday night who saved me getting a ticket on Heron. :D
Seems most folks use the "slow down" hand signal around here.

That's odd, what I was taught (and the only thing I've seen) for the hand signal for police is tapping your left hand on the top of your helmet.

your comfort stop thread is usually the universal signal for POLICE ... should consider revision...

Nelson,

Any suggestion for when you need to leave the group ride to fetch something you left back at the last stop? Scenario: county rd where the next stop will be kms away. How do you signal the other rider you are not leaving for mechanical, health, etc. problems but because you need to turn around?
